Three Sprocket Haiku

Sprocket Conquers RichThe other day, while I was putting on my shoes to take Sprocket for a walk, I was inspired to write a few haiku about her. I share them with you here:

Four-legged smile
The dog of my heart and dreams
Sprocket, I love you

Good Girl Sprocket
Looks up with loving brown eyes
You are so precious

I bask, yes bask, in
her glorious dogginess
the dog of my life

Another in the series of love poems I wrote in 1988. My love, like the wind,      flows through all. My love, like the ocean,      encompasses a large expance. My love, like the sun,      warms me through           and through. My love, like sand,      is infinite, or           seemingly so. My love,      my lover,           my everything …      where…

Written in 1983, this poem was en experiment in a syllable structured poetry. Each section follows a 4-6-2 pattern. In addition, this poem is related to a short story I wrote for a class. I no longer have it as my teacher lost it. Too bad … I really liked that story. There was a…

  • Prelude to Suicide

This poem was written Friday, Nov. 7, 1980, when I was in Junior High. The first draft was written in my diary, after an entry in which I expressed my frustration of not having a boyfriend. Oh! How I long for thee For thy unknown caress Thy warmth      one with my own. To share a…

Here is another poem about D.B., written in 1983. Oh! How I love you, You little ball of fur. Your little booted feet, up to your little white chin. Your long, soft fur is a comfort when I’m sad. Your watchful eyes help me see clearly that you love me as much as I love…

  • 52 Haiku Week 10

For the past two weeks I’ve been dealing with my dog’s health. She’s been sneezing blood all over the place — a bad combination of high blood pressure and aspirin seemed to cause it. Anyway, I’ve really had blood on the brain lately, thus this somewhat dark haiku for this week. Cleaned gore off the…

  • My first couplet

Well, actually, I’ve probably written couplets before … just not on purpose. In my Long Beach Writing Examiner column today, I wrote about couplets. And just for fun, in the section about couplets in Long Beach, I wrote it in the form of a couplet. When searching for couplets in Long Beach I lurch Toward…
