Life?

growWritten in 1983.

Life is:
     lessons to be learned
     dreams to be realized
     adventures to be experienced.

The reason is:
     getting to know
     experiencing the new
     realizing the truth.

I want to:
     learn
     know
     experience
     realize.

I want,
     desire,
          need
               to grow.

For the past two weeks I’ve been dealing with my dog’s health. She’s been sneezing blood all over the place — a bad combination of high blood pressure and aspirin seemed to cause it. Anyway, I’ve really had blood on the brain lately, thus this somewhat dark haiku for this week. Cleaned gore off the…

  • Now I Know Why

This poem, published at poetry.com, was written in 1992 after finding out a friend of mine got together with someone I had had a crush on for a long time. I was O.K. with it but it still hurt. This poem was part of my healing process. Now I know why the wolf howls at…

  • Orgasm of One

I was cleaning out my fiction and poetry files this weekend in preparation of renewing my efforts and found this weird little poem I wrote on Oct. 16, 1995. In fact, I don’t remember writing it. It’s in my handwriting and I do remember the line about the streamers, but everything else was like reading…

  • My Love

This poem was written in February 1988 during a time when I was writing a lot of love poetry. My Love is as sweet as      the nectar of the honeysuckle      the laughing call of gulls      the soft breath of a babe He is as pleasant as      the sun upon my back      the wind in my…

  • I Stand Alone

This was written May 18, 1984. I stand alone, as I always will. Friends come and go, but all the while I stand alone. Just a molecule of air, am I, tossed about by the wind. I see, and know,           and love                others but they go and I see, know and love                more. Always there…

  • Pretty Flower

In 1983, I did an independent study focused on my creative writing. I sat behind the teacher as he taught one class, and did my own thing. That’s why I have so much stuff to post from that year. During that course, I seemed quite fixated on war. The Boy was one result. This is…
