Color Experiments

colors
Images created by Carma Spence
On June 6, 1981, my diary entry consisted of nothing but poetry. Here is a series i did about color.

Yellow
Yellow is bright and cheery
It never seems dreary
Yellow is the sun
Yellow is the morning
Yellow wakes me up to a new day
And by the way
Yellow is adoring

Red
Red had many meanings
It can be Christmas
It can be war
It can be love
It can be caring
But most of all
Red can be anything
anything at all

Green
Green is the mountains
Green is the grass
Green is the hills and trees
Green is serene
Green is peaceful
Green are Martians on Mars
Green can be envy
Green can be frogs
Green can be oceans and bogs
Green is real
but yet makes our imagination flow
Green can be anything
from your thumb to your toe

Blue
Blue is the sky
Blue is calming
Blue is the sty
with a blue pig yawning

Purple
Purple is silly
Purple people eaters
with one eye
and a horn

Purple sounds silly
Gigglesnort and booglester
Nerd and nerdess

Purple is parties
Purple part hats
And purple party horns

Purple is flowers
Purple petunias
And purple periwinkles

But purple is purple
and purple will always
be purple as long
as purple exists

Orange
Orange is harvest
A morning on the farm
A picnic in the field
Orange is sunrise
Sunset
Orange is rainbows
Orange is bright
but conservative
Orange is the freckled
girl down the street
Orange is Halloween
Pumpkins and Jack-o-Lanterns
Orange is fun
and
Fun is orange

Brown
Brown
Earth
Sky
Birds
Eggs
Nests
Trees
Earth
Brown

  • Pen Limerick

Here’s a limerick I wrote during the 1984/1985 school year that was inspired by a pen. The pen is a remarkable thing, you know. It writes with such an easy flow. The colours it comes in are endless. The things you can do, tremendous. There are even pens that glow, ya’ know.

  • The Leaf

Written during the 1984/1985 school year. I’m falling! Falling slowly to the ground. Drifting I’m drifting on a breath of air Softly, I’ve landed on a soft, green surface. I’m not afraid, Anymore.

  • Solitaire

Written July 25, 1987. She sits there eating stick pretzels as if they were cigarettes. She holds them between her pointing and middle finger. She brings them up to her mouth and takes a bite. She rolls the bite teasingly with her tongue as she stares at her imaginary opponent. In her mind she plays…

  • Modern Day Prometheus

Written Feb. 24, 1992. High upon a mountain my heart waits for you chained to a rock      like Faye awaiting Kong Then they come picking and rending pieces of my heart They fly away      like vultures      with bits of Promethean liver      hanging from their mouths I endure      For how can I not? Like a modern…

  • Missing you …

Somehow I knew that guy I met New Year’s day would inspire poetry. I just didn’t think it would take this long to manifest. But I guess absence makes the heart grow fonder … or is that distressed? I sometimes forget. At first, I thought it would be his unique artistic photographs that would inspire…
