1983 was a year a great angst for me. I wanted so much to have a boyfriend … didn’t happen. I was having issues with friends … my ADD-induced social cluelessness didn’t help. So, a lot of my poetry from that year deals with love and frustration and teen angst. This poem is no different.
Show the world a grin
While you’re crying from within.
You’re not able to erase.
The shit they throw into your face.
They don’t care if you laugh or cry,
They don’t care if you live or die.
Show the world a grin
While you’re crying from within.
Show them that you can not cry
When all you wish is to die.
They’ll not come visit you
When you’re dying or in a stew.
Show the world a grin
While you’re crying from within.
