Inspiring sounds

chihuahua barking redrumI live in an ideal location for haunting inspiration.

Whenever there is a siren in the neighborhood, it is followed by the howling of dogs. I can even discern individual voices among the baying. There are the rottweilers that live down the street. They add a deep, consistent tone to the overall melody. There is the terrier whose location I haven’t quite figured out yet. It’s high-pitched voice adds harmony to the mix.

And this howling sounds like something that you’d hear in a werewolf movie. Here are a couple of samples:

More recently, a chihuahua moved into one of the houses on the other side of the alley behind my unit. The owners leave the poor thing outside all day and it barks at any and all passersby. What’s interesting, is that when it really gets going it sounds like it’s saying, “Redrum! Redrum!”

And, of course, there was that Good Samaritan demon I heard a few months back.

Yes, I live in an excellent place for dark, haunting inspiration. All I have to do is listen.
